Inhabited Codes (2015)

Collective Housing

Sestao, Spain

The project is part of the regeneration strategies of the disused industrial spaces of the Bilbao Estuary, by means of a flexible system of lines of housing and facilities served by a DNA code.

Its shape configuration is the result of the layout of groups of equipped modules between communication hubs that structure the development of the construction lines. These lines are perpendicular to the river to facilitate its crosswise permeability, generating sequences of facilities and houses with free spaces temporary occupied by their expansions. Each module is equipped with a characteristic servant DNA code.

The facility programs of the ground floor can expand from the equipped modules, colonising the interstitial space between the constructed lines. The domestic programs can expand in the same way by moveable furnishings, which can be stored in each module, in such a way that the space is dilated or shrunken according to the specific needs of different users.
